Though most of us are sheltering in place and practicing social distancing as much as possible, there are still some occasions when you must make essential trips to the grocery store or to work. While handwashing and face masks can mitigate some of the spread of COVID-19, you should consider how to properly sanitize your car to avoid infection. Below, West Point Lincoln has assembled some COVID-19 car sanitization tips to help you safeguard your vehicle.
- Pack a COVID Kit: Put together a kit of helpful items to combat COVID-19 in your car so they are always at hand. Disinfectant wipe, hand sanitizer with 60% or more alcohol content, gloves, and a spare mask will help you ensure you’re always prepared to stay safe.
- High-Traffic Surfaces: After you stock your car with helpful items to avoid spreading the virus, thoroughly clean all of the most frequently touched surfaces in your vehicle. Make sure you give extra attention to your steering wheel, infotainment screen, ignition, shifter, turn signal, and climate controls. Disinfectant wipes or a soapy solution can effectively combat COVID-19 on surfaces.
- Upholstery: Clean the front and back of your seats with specialized upholstery cleaner if you have it, though most bleach-free cleaners will do the trick. After cleaning, make sure leather seats receive the proper conditioning to avoid damage.
From all of us at West Point Lincoln: stay safe and healthy during this unprecedented time.
