Halloween is right around the corner, which means kids will be hitting the streets for trick-or-treat night. If you haven’t already, find out when your area’s hours are and plan accordingly. For those that absolutely have to be out on the road, safety is key to prevent any unwanted accidents. Here are some Halloween driving safety tips to help you have an accident-free night!
- Drive Slowly – As always, the most important step to avoiding an accident is to slow down. Drive well under the speed limit, especially when in residential areas, and don’t grow irritated when other drivers do the same. Kids will likely be out in droves and that can make them difficult to keep track of. Give yourself plenty of time to react should a child run into the road by simply slowing down.
- Eliminate Distractions – Put your smartphone and other devices out of sight. Keep all of your focus on the road and keep both hands on the wheel at all times. Turn off the radio and listen for any nearby children. Keep your lights on to improve both your and the children’s visibility.
- Yield – Children might not stop before crossing the street which is why it’s important for drivers to yield on Halloween night. If children are near the street, stop and wave them across to eliminate any unnecessary accidents.
